Manuel Mendive, one of Cuba's best known artists, created an amazing work for the Biennial in Havana called 'Colours of Life'. Performers painted by Mendive moved like a whirlwind from the port to the new Victor Manuel Gallery by the Cathedral, representing a flight of uncertainty and transformation to the sounds of Bach's Fugue, carrying bundles at times for comfort and at times as a burden. Not to be forgotten.

Just one small part of the Havana Art Biennial is 'Detras el Muro'/'Behind the Wall' with sculptures, interactive installations and performances along the Malecon seawall by over 50 Cuban artists and artists from other countries.

Renowned Cuban artist Arturo Montoto will present the projects Jardines invisibles and Sitio del agua at the upcoming 12th Havana Biennial, which opens on May 22.

Havana's annual Cubadisco fair is aimed at promoting Cuban music and its international relationships with a full schedule of concerts, panels and workshops. The event kicked off on the afternoon of May 14 with the Premios Cubadisco, an award ceremony for the best Cuban recordings of the year held at the Tropicana cabaret. The fair continues through May 24.

Cuba participates for the third time in the Venice Biennial. In this 56th edition, a group of very young creators take proposals, which are transgressors and universal at the same time. Their projects respond to a curatorship idea structured according to the artist's individuality and the context. Once again, and with the collaboration of the important Italian editors María Vicini y Cristian Maretti, the Cuban plastic artists will have their own space under protection of Cuban Jorge Fernández, director of Wilfredo Lam Contemporary Art Center and Italian Giacomo Zaza.

When the Minnesota Orchestra plays in Cuba this week, the visit will not only symbolize the reopening of relations between the United States and Cuba, but also healing for an acclaimed ensemble that was "almost destroyed" by a long and bitter lockout.

BBC DJ, label owner and global music tastemaker Gilles Peterson's series of albums, created in partnership with Havana Club rum's Havana Cultura initiative, has set a bar for American producers now eyeing Cuba as a recording destination.
