The 19th International Book Fair, Cuba 2010, will be held in Havana from February 11 to 21, under the motto To Read is to Grow . This year will be dedicated to authors María del Carmen Barcia, 2003 Social Science National Prize, and Reynaldo González Zamora, 2003 National Literature Prize and Russia will be the Country Guest of Honor.
The San Carlos de la Cabaña Fortress will be the event's main venue, and for the second consecutive year, Pabellón Cuba, Rancho Boyeros Fair, and 46 bookstores in the Cuban capital will be sub-venues to the event and that will open to the public with literary novelties a week prior to the Fair's inauguration. And to the delight of the youngest, there will be a pavilion for children called Tesoro de Papel.
During the last fair in February 2009, the main venue welcomed nearly one million visitors and over one million two hundred thousand books were sold. Also present were editors, writers, librarians and distributors from 43 countries, while 105 and 159 Cuban and foreign publishing houses, respectively, exhibited and sold their publications. The artistic program of the Fair entertained the public of Havana with musical performances, cinema exhibits and dance shows. Highly valued were the concerts by important groups that performed in "Antes del Cañonazo " program organized within La Cabaña Fortress area.
Considered the most transcendental event of the Cuban editorial movement since its first holding in 1982, the International Book Fair provides space for participation and exchange of all entities and professionals linked to the universe of publications, and has therefore become a site of encounters for Cuban readers.
