The International Festival of New Latin American Cinema is a fest of brotherhood, culture and hope, said the festival's president Alfredo Guevara at the opening ceremony of the 30th edition of the event Tuesday evening in the Karl Marx Theater in Havana.

HAVANA (Reuters) – "Che," the movie about Argentine Ernesto "Che" Guevara who fought alongside Fidel Castro in the Cuban revolution, will be shown next month in Cuba, the director of Havana's New Latin American Film Festival said on Thursday.

The Cuban Casa de las Americas, a cultural institution founded by Haydee Santamaria, is celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2009 with the attendance of intellectuals and artists from Latin America and Europe.

Maestro Juan Blanco, a pioneer of electroacoustic music in Cuba and one of the most important promoters of this kind of music in Iberoamerica, died last week in Havana.
