'The English Professor' short film wins First Prize in Cuban Youth Film Festival

The moving film, written and directed by Alan Gonzalez, was also given the awards for Best Screenplay, direction, photography and soundtrack in this festival of young Cuban filmmakers.

The film shows the drama of Sonia, a former English teacher, who at 65 feels the urge to kill her husband, terminally ill, to resume her life or perhaps start from scratch.

Awards were also given to "Crepusculo" (Twilight), by Juan Pablo Daranas, and "Alejandrito y el Cuco", which was granted the prize for best poster and best female performance to Ysmercy Solomon.

In animation "Un dia mas" (One More Day), by Marcos Menendez, was granted the first prize and in documentary "Ahlam", by Jessica Rodriguez and Shaza Aly, an attempt to approach the turbulent nowadays Egypt avoiding prejudices and cliches.

This way, the Youth Film Festival closes, with fewer films in competition and variable quality, but always with the effort to perpetuate and improve the rich Cuban film tradition.
