Cuba asks UNESCO to play more active role

Prieto said education is a right that continues to be denied to one fifth of adults in the world. He, once again, encouraged the organization to take advantage of the Cuban "Yes, I Can" teaching method through which four million people have learned to read and write worldwide.

The Cuban official emphasized the role that could be played by UNESCO in the fight against climate change and, he added, the organization should lead actions aimed at facilitating scientific access, eradicating militarization of science and contributing to the solution of big health and environmental problems the world faces today.
