Maravillas de Mali at La Linea Festival – 2 May 2019

Maravillas-de-Mali-560-x-400

Witness the historic rebirth of Las Maravillas de Mali, as original member Boncana Maïga leads the band through their music 50 years after their formation. In the 1960s a group of seven young Malians left for Havana to study music. They formed a band to play their own compositions in Spanish, using Cuban musical forms and addressing contemporary African issues in their lyrics.

Now, the sole surviving member of the group, Boncana, brings their blend of Cuban charanga and Malian tradition back to life with a group of Cuban musicians. Maravillas de Mali perform from their new record Africa Mia with pianist Pepe Rivero and guest vocals from Guinean singer Mory Kante.
