Designers from many countries will come together at the 2nd Havana Design Biennial (BDHabana 2019) to be held from May 20 to June 16.
Under the slogan ‘Design Beyond Form’, Cuba’s National Design Office (ONDi) launched the official invitation to this 2nd Biennial, which has become a space for exchange and promotion on the importance of design for personal and social growth.
The Biennial, dedicated to the 500th Anniversary of Havana, proposes a vision focused on the user’s experience, favours an environment where design is synonymous with well-being, invites people to think of the discipline as a creative process, fosters a multisensory approach and encourages an authentic design, says the official statement.
The event, will be held from May 20 to 26 at the Hispanic American Cultural Center, along with other spaces in Havana with exhibitions, catwalks and shows of Cuban and foreign design.
At the same time, the Palace of Conventions in Havana will host the 10th International Congress of Design, FORM 2019, the theoretical meeting event.
The design biennial will move to Santiago de Cuba from May 27 to June 7 to make the design from Eastern Cuba more visible. It will travel to Camagüey, between June 10 and 16 and end there – forming a whole design month in Cuba.
The event, with the objective of fostering design’s presence and benefits, also aims to showcase the work of those professionals and institutions which serve as an example for their quality, creativity and innovation.
The event also aims to strengthen the link between Cuban and foreign design, as well as to encourage the creation of networks of exchange between design and architecture, economics, communication and other similar disciplines. Both foreign and Cuban participants can compete in a dozen categories, which reward the quality, innovation and usefulness of the products.
