LAZARITO VALDES Y BAMBOLEO
LIVE AT 229 THE VENUE – GREAT PORTLAND STREET STATION
WITH DJS RICH, JIM AND JAVIER
SUNDAY 30TH APRIL 2017
IF YOU LOVE CUBAN MUSIC, THIS IS THRILLING NEWS INDEED!
One of Cuba's most innovative and original timba bands return to London nearly 8 years after they last graced a stage in the capital. The mighty Bamboleo under the leadership of the prodigious Lázaro Valdés will rock your world with their powerful groove & fantastic show. Hailing from a prestigious musical family, bandleader and pianist, Lazarito Valdés, began his professional career at the age of 16, touring extensively with Pachito Alonso Y Su Kini Kini. In 1995 he formed Bamboleo as a musical project set to enter into and bring together a rich variety of genres such as salsa, folkloric afro-cuban music, Latin jazz, boleros and ballads. That same year the group received the nomination for 'Best New Orchestra' in the annual 'My Salsa' programme, as well as a phenomenal reception in the island's top music clubs and festivals.
The band were immediately tagged as "cutting edge" due to their aggressive sound, and funky and avante-garde fashion sense. Interestingly, they were the first hard-core timba band to make women lead singers and the main protagonists of their stage show; the female point of view has always been a key element to their sound. As a result, Bamboleo has become a socio-cultural phenomenon, integrating a new style of dance, fashion and language into the Cuban culture.
APULULU! APULULU! The chorus refrain from Bamboleo's latest dance floor hit rings out across Cuban dance floors around the globe, driving the dancers into a frenzy. And this is the latest in a very long line of iconic anthems, designed to set your heart a pounding and your body shaking, including Yo No Me Parezco A Nadie, Ya No Hace Falta, Caramelo Con Picante, La Que Manda, El Vecino, Aparentemente Ideal, Fiebre, Se Acabaron Los Guapos En La Habana, Juan Pescao, La Historia De Mi Prima, and La Vecina to name but a few.
