Leo Brouwer's Human Voices festival calls for peace and care for the environment

Felix Enrique Valle, member of the office, announced that "we are putting on photographic and art exhibitions, film screenings, teaching workshops, presentations and sales of records, books and sheet music, homages to artists and Cuban and foreign cultural institutions, for example for the 120th anniversary of the birth of Maria Teresa Vera, 100 years since the birth of Frank Sinatra, 55 years of the Cinemateca de Cuba, 55 years of the National Choir of Cuba, amongst others".

Also they will present an Environmental Carnival with the support of the Madre Tierra (Mother Earth) Festival (of the Cuban ecology network), the Interactive Forum of Urban Art (FIAU), in alliance with the group Giganteria, and Polish theatre week.

In places like the main theatres Karl Marx, Marti and the theatre of the National Museum of the Arts, will be presentations by artists from the Cuban singer Silvio Rodriguez, the German Andreas Scholl, the US group Take 6, the Entrevoces Choir and the Cuban group Vocal Sampling.

Also participating will be Dulce Pontes from Portugal, the Cuban Ernan Lopez-Nussa, the Vocal Choir Sine Nomine, Badi Assad from Brazil, Yasek Manzano from Cuba, the Spanish Mayte Martin, the Cubans Miriam Ramos, Rochy Ameneiro, Diana Fuentes and Johana Simon, the Mexivan Jaramar, the Orchestral Choir of Havana, the Childrens company La Colmenita theatre, the Cubans David Alvarez and David Blanco, amongst many others of equal excellence.

With the objective of supporting Cuban countertenors and to protect their career at national and international levels, they will offer for the first time 5-7 October, a competition with no limits of age nor nationality.

Ubail Zamora, president of the jury for the countertenors competition, declared that "those who in one way or another have dedicated to sing in this register always have been of interest to the public and specialists, because it is a magical voice which always attracts attention".

For its part the competition A Capella Voices (for groups, two to eight voices, men, women and mixed) will include international entries. It will include Rene Banos, director of the group Vocal Sampling, as president of the jury and will take place 12-14 October.
