With regard to the world premier, Alicia Alonso noted that: "With this tribute ballet to Vilma, we are attempting to recount her greatest contributions to the construction of a new world in our homeland, to recall her beautiful life starting from when she was a young girl. And portray her infinite commitment to the Revolution, struggling for women to be recognized in all spheres of Cuban society. We knew it would be impossible to display all the events of such a full life in a performance, reflect the life of an individual blessed with so many special qualities. Nonetheless, here today we present, with the work of young choreographer Eduardo Blanco, a respectful interpretation of the essence of this heroine, so dearly loved and remembered by our people."
The ballet, with music by Frank Fernández, costume by Frank Álvarez, and visuals by Alejandro Pérez, will see Anette Delgado, Dani Hernández and Chanell Cabrera take on the leading roles, supported by soloists and the company's corps de ballet, as well as entry-level students from the National School of Ballet.
Tickets are on sale at the National Theatre Box office (Paseo and 39, Plaza de la Revolución) during regular hours.
