The German Ambassador Peter Scholz said that he hopes that this event will be a message of tolerance and friendship between both countries and he express his willingness that this porject wont disappear without being heard.
The bears,each one painted by an artist from the country it represents, are holding hands, giving life to the abovemention slogan, according to the diplomat.
He added that he wishes that the sculptures could offer pleasure and happiness in the following 6 weeks of the presentation of the exhibition here.
The iconic Buddy Bears are the result of the creation of artists from 150 different countries. Their designs referto the culture of every people.
Also Havana Historian Eusebio Leal, admired the scupltures which were revived by the colors that each artist sees in the world, and now they are in Havana with a message of openess and tolerance. He said that even as he considers that tolerance is important, there is something even higher, he doesn't want to be tolerated, he wants to be respected, said Leal. He ended saying that the exhibition is a nice excuse to come to Havana and that the bears are announcing the coming of a better time.
Eva Herlitz who toghther with her husband created the project mentioned that the bears are holding hands and that pople all over the planet should also be like that.
Since its first presentation in Berlin in 2002, the exhibition has visited Vienna,Cairo,Jerusalen, Buenos Aires, Montevideo,Paris, HongKong,Stambul,Tokyo,Sydney, and Rio, and many other cities.
Near 140 pieces, each of two meters high,have been seen around the world by more than 30 million people.
As part of the exhibition there will be an auction of the bear that reprsents Cuba, made by the Cuban artist Nancy Torres, who lives in Germany.
