Cuban celebrations for their National Day of Culture

Concerts, exhibitions and theatre, are to mark events, such as the centenary of the establishment of the Independent Party of Color in Cuba. The occasion is propitious to pay tribute to the talented Cuban playwright Virgilio Piñera (1912-1979), one of the most original writers in national literature, and sculptor Rita Longa (1912-2000), considered an exceptional figure of the twentieth century. Other personalities to be honored are painters Wilfredo Lam (1902-1982), exponent of surrealism in Latin America, and Mariano Rodriguez, a prominent Cuban painter of the last century. Events will include participation of foreign artists as the international events, which also are dedicated to salute as significant date, such as the Leo Brouwer IV Festival of Chamber Music, attended by musicians from France, Italy, Mexico, Spain and Venezuela, among other nations. Also there is the Cubania Festival, scheduled from 17 to 20 this month, will be held with the participation of guests from Venezuela and Mexico.
