Celebrating Cuba: “Excellent . Inspiring. Thought-provoking exhibition”

Organised by Cuba Solidarity Campaign, in conjunction with the Cuban photographer Alejandro Gortazar, the exhibition consists of 50 photographs celebrating Cuba's achievements and its people. It presents everyday images of life rarely seen here, people at work and at play, young and old, urban and rural, modern and traditional. Photographer Alejandro shares his view from the inside.

Gortazar has worked as a professional photographer in Cuba for the last decade and has experience in many arenas, reflected in the diversity of these images: from a fashion shoot to a tired butcher at work, from fruit marketeers to the welcoming coastguard, from the chaotic rooftops of Havana to the immaculate kitchen of the rural shack, from mass demonstration to the solitary domestic activity of sorting the beans.

At the launch, Cuban ambassador Rene Mujicar Cantelar paid tribute to Gortazar's ability to capture the light and spirit of life in Cuba. He said that the photos captured the essence of the Cuban people, seeing them live and work so positively, despite living under the 50 year old blockade.

Steve Cottingham, from exhibition sponsors OH Parsons said "These photos inspire you to get on the plane today to visit the island and see Cuba for yourself"
