Omara Portuondo and Chucho Valdes win Latin Grammys

The Cuban ‘bolero' singer made history not only by being the first Cuban artist from the island to appear on the televised Latin Grammy ceremony, but the first one to win an award on the air.

Meanwhile, Chucho Valdés, a pianist, arranger and composer who had already been granted four Grammys and is regarded by experts as one of the world's top four jazz musicians, won the Grammy in the category of Best Latin Jazz Album. On this occasion, he shared the award with his father Bebo Valdes with the album ‘Juntos para siempre' (Together Forever).
