Barbican Hall, London
Coming up as part of the London Jazz Festival – a rare UK appearance of the legendary Grammy Award winning Cuban pianist Chucho Valdes playing solo and with quartet and big band. Recognised as one of the top 10 jazz artists of all time he is is a national treasure in his native Cuba and combines classical music with Afro Cuban folklore to great effect.
When you hear current Cuban jazz or popular music, you hear the influence of Chucho Valdes and Irakere…
"…high-pressure virtuosity, cliffhanging improvisation and party-time salsa… which he still throws off as easily as if he were whistling in the street." (Guardian Unlimited)
