ICAIC to celebrate 50th Anniversary

ICAIC Will Premiere Fourteen Feature Films, Fifteen Documentaries and 500 Hours of Cartoons during 2008 and 2009

"We are celebrating ICAIC's 50th anniversary with more work and a production that had never been reached since the ‘90s economic crisis," said Omar González, the president of the Cuban Film Institute (ICAIC).

Cubans Celebrate Cuban Culture Season

The Cuban Culture Season kicked off throughout the island amidst ongoing limitations imposed by the damage inflicted by hurricanes Ike and Gustav, but with stronger expressions of unity and advancement in the nationwide recovery process.

The Cultural Season is dedicated, among other events, to the 155 birthday of Cuban National Hero Jose Marti, the 50th anniversary of the Cuban Revolution and the 60th birthday of the Cuban National Ballet. The season will wind up next October 20 marking Cuban Culture Day.

Soy Cuba gallery to bring Jose Fuster to London

This November, The London art world has the rare opportunity to see an exhibition by one of Cuba's most renowned artists: José Fuster. The show at La Galleria on Pall Pall, which runs from The 10th to 21st November 2008, will display a range of the remarkable paintings and ceramics that have led American critics to call Fuster 'The Picasso of The Caribbean.'
It will also have images of his stunning ceramic art, including his transformation of run-down buildings in his neighbourhood of Havana.

Cuban Filmmaker Humberto Solas passed away

Cuban cinema has lost one of its most complete and dedicated artists. Humberto Solas passed away on Wednesday in Havana at the age of 66 from cancer.

Solas was well known inside and outside of Cuba for some of the best movies produced by the Cuban Institute of Cinematic Art and Industry(ICAIC) in their half-century of existence, reported Granma newspaper.
