Cuban Pole-Vaulter Prepares for Pan-American and Olympic Games

In the coming days, Borges will carry out high-altitude training along his teammates in Quito, Ecuador, to adapt themselves for the Pan-American Games in Guadalajara, which 1,200 meters above sea level.

"My goal at the Pan-American Games is to win Cuba's first goal in the pole vault," he said. Borges faces tough competition from his U.S. and Canadian rivals.

Borges broke the national record at the 2011 IAAF World Championships in South Korea by jumping 5.90 meters, a good performance for any international competition.
