THEATRE
Cuban theatre is thriving, with a wave of new young playwrights and directors.
It has a proud history including work in the 60s and 70s by Teatro Escambray who worked with non-professional actors, and 'relaciones', drawing on music, carnival, theatre and dance.
In the 1990s, theatre writers such as Victor Varela began to create more experimental work, and this new wave of work also introduced Carlos Díaz, a talented new director.
More recently, the Royal Court Theatre has worked with emerging Cuban playwrights including Ulises Rodriquez Febles and Lilian Susel Zaldvar de los Reyes.
La Colmenita ( The Little Beehive) is Cuba's highly respected National Children's Theatre company, featuring a cast of 7 - 15 year olds.
