A short, poignant documentary about the lives and beliefs of four Cuban women, Angela, Ana, Elena and Maria who met during the revolution and became lifelong friends. They reflect on the last 60 years. They discuss hardships and principles and throw light on the way Cubans feel about the Revolution.

Monday 22 May 7.30pm - The Power of the Weak (2016) dir. Tobias Kriele.

Documentary. The inspirational story of a young revolutionary activist who suffers from cerebral palsy His work has included fighting for the return of the Five while he was just a teenager and emphasises the quality of treatment for his disability in Cuba.

Monday 26 June 7.30pm - Viva Cuba (2006) dir Juan Carlos Cremata Malberti.

Thoughtful feature of two youngsters whose parents' decisions threaten to make them unhappy. They take to the road to try to sort the adults out and we see some of lesser known Cuba through their eyes.

Monday 31 July 7.30pm - Fidel: The Untold Story (2001) dir. Estela Bravo.

The documentary features interviews not only with Fidel himself but with many major political and public figures such as Harry Belafonte, Angela Davis and Nelson Mandela. Made some years back it remains a tribute to Fidel.

Monday 25 September 7.30pm - Waiting List (2000) dir. Juan Carlos Tabío.

Cuban feature film. A growing group of people waiting for the infrequent bus service get to know one another better than they intend. Comedy and romance abound and the ineffable Cuban spirit of getting by and making the most of things is celebrated in this charming film.

Cine Cuba is a monthly film club, generally held on the last Monday of the month (check for details) & organised by North London Cuba Solidarity Campaign (NLCSC), showing films from or about Cuba. We aim to show films which provide an insight into the Cuban Revolution and the society, politics, history and culture of Cuba. Where possible we invite guest speakers with a special interest in the film topic We hope that viewers will stay at the end of the film and participate in the relaxed post-film discussion.

Entry is free but donations are welcome to cover our costs.
